Breeders Cup Odds
It's time for the 2007 Breeders Cup World Thoroughbred Championships! Odds to win the Breeders Cup are posted on WagerWeb Racebook, the prestigious international horse racing event happening on Oct. 26-27 at Monmuth Park in Oceanport, New Jersey.
Horse racing fans will travel to Monmouth Park to witness the contenders from around the world to compete for the accumulated prizes of $23 million in purses for the Breeders Cup races, bringing the total races to 11 starting this year!
The Breeders' Cup Classic attracted an international star-studded field of 14 horses competing for the $3 million purse. Exciting days are coming for all horse racing lovers, High Chaparral accelerated suddenly settling into the stretch, exploding to a 1 1-4 length victory over With Anticipation and six others in the $2,216,720 Breeders' Cup Turf.
The main attraction in this year's KC Classic is Kentucky Derby champion Street Sense. Carl Nafzger finally made it official after considering several races, including the 89th running of the Jockey Gold Cup at Belmont on Sunday.
The feature attraction is the $750,000 Gold Cup that will pit two of trainer Todd Pletcher's best: Lawyer Ron, the nation's top older handicap horse with back-to-back triumphs in Saratoga's Whitney and Woodward, and Curlin, victorious in the Preakness while hitting the board in the other two legs of the Triple Crown.
Among those hoping to pull an upset are Political Force, winner of the Suburban who later ran fifth in the Woodward; Sun King, second in the Woodward; and Brother Bobby, runner-up in the Oaklawn Handicap and the Iselin BC Stakes.
2006 Breeders’ Cup Classic - Powered by Dodge Champion
Owner: Shadwell Stable
Trainer: Kiaran McLaughlin
Jockey: Fernando Jara
Breeder: Haras Clausan (Arg)
Final Time: 2:02.18
Purse Won: $2,700,000
A horse purchased privately by Sheikh Hamdan’s Shadwell operation, Invasor had already proven himself by being undefeated in Uruguay and the United States.
That didn’t scare off Bernardini’s connections, or his fans, which made him the betting choice at even money. As the Classic unfolded, it appeared that Bernardini, with Javier Castellano in the irons, had the race in hand as the field turned into the stretch. The Preakness winner only had to maintain his advantage with a sixteenth of a mile to go, but could not repel the bid of Invasor.
The young jockey Fernando Jara gave Invasor a masterful ride, waiting patiently until rounding the final turn to tap into Invasor’s deep reservoir and receive a bold response to overcome Bernardini by a length at the wire. It was the first Breeders’ Cup win for all connections and led to dual Eclipse Awards for Invasor—Champion Older Horse and Horse of the Year.
