NFL Odds: Bet on Tom Brady's 2007 Football Season
By Jordan WaltersWagerWeb.com Contributing Writer
San Jose, Costa Rica, Oct. 23, 2007 -- New England's Tom Brady is off to the best start for a quarterback in NFL history, and WagerWeb.com now offers odds on whether the Patriots' three-time Super Bowl champion will break some of the NFL's biggest single-season passing marks.
Coming off a six-touchdown, 354-yard, perfect quarterback rating (158.3) day in a rout of Miami on Oct. 21, Brady had thrown for 2,125 yards and 27 touchdowns this season in leading New England to a 7-0 record. That's already three more TD passes than Brady had all of last season, and he was the first QB to throw six TD passes in a game since 2004.
The NFL record for touchdown passes in a season, 49, was set by the Indianapolis Colts' Peyton Manning in 2004. Brady is already more than halfway to Manning's record and is on pace to shatter it with 62. In addition, Brady's season passer rating is 137.9, on pace to break Manning's 2004 record of 121.1.
"He's looking awesome," Dolphins linebacker Zach Thomas said of Brady, who is on pace to throw for 4,857 yards, which would fall a bit short of Dan Marino's record of 5,084 set in 1984.
Brady, humble as always, credits Randy Moss and his receivers.
"Those guys are making the plays," Brady said. "I'm just throwing it, they're catching it and they're making the run after the catch. They're probably more in a zone than I am."
However, Brady's teammates are aware of how "in a zone" their quarterback is.
"Tom's on his game right now," said Patriots receiver Jabar Gaffney. "If he stays healthy and we continue to get open and catch the ball for him, hopefully down the line he'll be looking at that record."
Can Brady continue his record pace, all the while possibly leading the Patriots - who have won all seven of their games by at least 17 points, matching a league record to start a season - to a possible perfect season?
